Charles "Ponpon" Vorbe, for more than a decade, has been Professor at the Faculty of Human Sciences of the State University of Haiti. He performed his academic studies in his native city of Port-au-Prince. At an earlier stage, he attended the Saint Martial Seminary College from 1966 to 1969. Thereafter, he completed his cycle of studies at the Canado-Haitian College from 1969 to 1974. His passage at the Canado-Haitian College was most remarkable judging by his numerous displays of talents. Very involved in the Sports arena, his innate athletic abilities translated into several successes that included the following:
- His many successes in high level Table Tennis competitions.
- His three consecutive years as finalist playing Football/Soccer for the Canado-Haitian College. His team reached that position as a result of fiercely fought engagements in the inter-school Under-15 (cadets) and Under-17 (juniors) competitions.
- He ascended to the first division level competing for the coveted Pradel Cup. At that level, he played for the Violette Haitian Athletic Club. At age 17, Charles shared the trenches with illustrious Sports heroes such as his older brother Phillipe Vorbe, Pierre Bayonne, Guy Francois, Ernst Jean-Joseph and Jean-Marie Jean-Baptiste. During that period he was twice crowned champion.
- At the dawn of his 20th birthday, he joined the National Team in order to defend his country’s colors at the international level. Noteworthy is the fact that three or four years prior, he played with the Juvenile National Team - that time facing the opponents alongside schoolmates such as Gérald Jean and Raphael Alexis.
Circa 1975, Charles Vorbe’s life took a decisive turn that began when he attended Columbia University in New York. Then, he graduated from the Faculty of Laws and Economical Sciences (Legal Section) of the State University of Haiti. Shortly after, he started a teaching career with the title of Instructor at the INAGHEI (National Institute of Management Administration and Higher International Studies). He continued spreading the wings of his knowledge via several trips abroad and internships in France and Belgium. During the period that extended from 1981 to 1982, Charles Vorbe was admitted and participated in the DEA program otherwise known as Degree in Advanced Studies. Later, he returned to the French capital where he spent two additional years earning the University Diploma 3rd Cycle in Fundamental Laws. Furthermore, he occupied several functions in the private sector and did the same at the University level as an advisor in financial and legal matters. Finally, He authored three books and actively participated in the publication of several articles.
Professor Charles Vorbe and his wife Béatrice reside in Pétion-Ville, Haiti and were blessed with three beautiful daughters: Laura, soon to acquire a Law degree like her father, Adele and Eleanore. His primary dream consists of the preparation of a youth population conditioned to collaboratively build a Haitian society that surpasses itself in the area of justice, progress and competency. |
