Marie-Yves L. Léger, out of Phoenix, Arizona, stands today as one of the most prominent female personalities to have attended the Canado-Haitian College in the seventies. Her sustained leadership qualities during that time and History’s own sense of timing combined to make of her a special human being among her contemporaries. During her student career, she enjoyed a well deserved popularity that traveled beyond her academic sphere. Blessed with an imposing physique, it was quite an easy task to notice Marie-Yves on the Volleyball field especially with her trademark white socks that she always wore almost to the level of her knees. Her rendezvous with History derived from the fact that she somehow always find herself being in the position of a female pioneer. This was true in the most prevalent Sports activities at the time, namely Volleyball, Soccer and later Basketball. Most importantly of all, she excelled in all of the above named sports. We might want to mention her championships in Volleyball with the Canado-Haitian College. Equally noteworthy is the fact that she also belonged to the first group of female students that transformed the Canado-Haitian College into a co-ed establishment.
Later, she would become an integral member of the National Team in both Volleyball and Basketball respectively. Most admirable is that the spirit that energized her high standard of accomplishments in Sports did so, with the same dexterity, in her academic performances. This is probably why her solid intellectual formation and her versatile abilities transferred naturally into a successful professional career that started as an office manager at Chemical Bank and subsequently as a Realtor. Some time thereafter, she was to relinquish the job market in order to apply her dedication to the noble cause of Motherhood and to focus primarily on the challenges of domestic engineering. From that endeavor, Marie-Yves and Elias Léger, her husband of 30 years, had been blessed with three beautiful and charming daughters: Yamilay, Cassandre and Ashlay. Elias himself is on record as a Sports icon in his own rights for having held the Table Tennis championship at one time. The couple extended their excellence to make a positive difference by immersing themselves in charitable activities. Their altruistic penchant feeds their desire and passion to give back and to share the blessings they were fortunate enough to have been the recipients in their own lives.
